Gopalpur port is an all weather direct berthing port located on the East Coast of India. It is one of the deepest ports in India capable of docking large ships. Its strategic location and proximity to Golden Quadrilateral will provide cost advantage for the dealers.
It is situated 160 kms from the state capital, Bhubaneshwar and 280 kms from the port city of Vishakhapatnam. The consumption clusters and hinterlands are well connected to the port via rail sidings, 4-lane National Highway (NH5) and the airstrip at Rangeilunda. This gives it easy access to large number of steel, cement and other industries.
In addition to having one of the largest material handling capacities in India, it is well equipped to tackle Handymax vessels. Deployment of adequate heavy equipment such as material handlers, pay loaders, heavy lift cranes, forklifts, trailers and trippers further facilitate cargo handling.
Government has announced the project for construction of National Highway from Gopalpur (Odisha) to Raipur (Chattishgarh). This highway will connect the inaccessible and tribal areas of Ganjam, Kondhmal, Kalahandi and Naupada district in Odisha. This would aid movement of forest produce and other agricultural products to the port of Gopalpur and further to larger markets in the coastal areas.
Gopalpur is the poised to be the next Super Port in East India.
